Abstract

Work created in 2025/7/19

This internet art piece is an attempt to translate Jackson Pollock’s revolutionary drip painting into the digital medium of the 21st century, thereby pioneering a new realm of expression. The word 'Abstract' in the title does not merely refer to abstraction but functions as a declaration of liberation from physical constraints and a foray into algorithm-driven creativity.
The vibrant trajectories of lines unfolding in the center of the screen recreate Pollock’s fluid movements, originally executed using his entire body, now rendered through code. The intricate interweaving of primary colors—blue, red, yellow, purple—and their intermediates embodies the essence of generative art, where chance and determinism coexist. Here, the algorithm assumes the role of the brush in place of the human hand, producing paths that are unpredictable yet aesthetically harmonious.
The inclusion of a sonic element elevates this work into a more immersive sensory experience. The sound design, realized using the Tone.js library, corresponds with the visual line movements, deepening the viewer’s immersion through auditory perception. The sound, generated at a 22050 Hz sample rate, symbolizes the fusion of digital precision and organic expression.
The implementation of interactivity encourages a shift from passive observation—typical of traditional painting—towards active engagement. A simple action, such as pressing the play button, positions the viewer as a co-creator of the work, foregrounding the temporality and participation unique to digital art.
While this piece pays homage to a master of modernist painting, it also stands as a contemporary practice exploring the potential of computational art. Freed from the physical canvas and exhibited on the browser as a platform, its abstract expression contributes to the democratization and accessibility of art.
The minimalist interface design is a deliberate choice to focus attention on the essential elements of the work. Through an aesthetic of negative space and a functionalist approach, viewers are guided purely toward the audiovisual experience. This simplicity can also be interpreted as a critical stance against the information overload of the contemporary digital environment.
