Symphony of Loneliness

Work created in 2025/9/6

This work is a metaphor for life within digital space, unfolding through a real-time voice collection system. By using sound, the most primitive and intuitive medium of expression, it explores the essence of loneliness in contemporary society.
At its core lies the act of voice collection. When the viewer presses the Start Voice Collection button, the surrounding sound environment is absorbed as a digital lifeform. The collected sounds are not treated as mere data but as pseudo-lifeforms with evolutionary levels. They grow over time and eventually vanish, tracing an organic cycle.
The title Solitude Symphony combines seemingly contradictory notions. A symphony is traditionally music created through the cooperation of many instruments, but here, it is linked with the theme of loneliness. This paradox reflects modern society: though we are constantly surrounded by noise and digitally connected, we still carry a profound sense of solitude.
The system's concept of evolutionary level quantifies the growth process of life. Sounds are gathered, evolve, pass through a special stage called Great Evolution, and are ultimately deleted automatically after thirty loops. This design expresses the finitude of life within digital space. By embedding disappearance into a medium where permanent data storage is possible, it reminds us of the fragility of real life.
The phenomenon called Geometric Collapse signifies the system's limit point. This is not a technical malfunction but a deliberately designed poetic expression. By confronting its own structural boundaries and collapsing, the digital system generates a new aesthetic experience.
Within the context of internet art, the work raises significant questions. It digitizes sound, the most human form of expression, and grants it the cycle of life, thereby blurring the boundary between technology and humanity. By emphasizing real-time interaction, it dismantles the conventional idea of a finished artwork and instead offers an ever-changing, living artistic experience.
Its strongest quality lies in how it allows solitude to be experienced indirectly through the process of collecting and losing sound, rather than expressing the theme overtly. The viewer watches as their own sound environment is absorbed as a digital lifeform and then fades away, forcing them to confront both the fragility of existence and the essence of loneliness.
This Solitude Symphony can be positioned as a major work of contemporary internet art, poetically expressing the human condition of the 21st-century digital society through the primordial medium of sound.
